Mission Statement

Bemaadizing:
a multi-disciplinary, online journal for critical scholarship about indigenous life in North America.

Mission Statement

Bemaadizing provides an on-line forum to explore and discuss the many facets of North American Indian life and worldviews from various academic disciplines. Published twice a year, this journal encourages emerging authors to discuss issues of importance in Native communities. Authors are encouraged to submit original research, stories, poems, and art work that increase the understanding about North American Indian life ways through the lens of Native peoples. This forum will provide authors with direct feedback by readers in order to more fully explore their topic that may lead to publication in a refereed journal.

Format:
Multi-disciplinary on-line, non-refereed journal published twice a year through the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Organization Structure:
Editor and a Review Board composed of tenured American Indian faculty, American Indian faculty who have completed three years in tenure-track, and seasoned practitioners from various academic and practice fields including Education, American Indian Studies, American Indian History, Medicine/Health, Social Work and American Indian Culture/Language.
Review Board Role:
Read submissions to determine applicability and readiness to be posted on line for feedback from others who might be interested in the topic. This board will not serve as “editors” but rather reviewers.
Criteria to Serve on Review Board:
In-depth knowledge in an academic or practice area, willingness and time to commit to read submissions in this area two times a year, access to on-line technology and ability to use it and a commitment of 2 years.
Interaction with Readers:
A unique feature of the journal is that readers will have the ability to provide direct feedback to authors who may then use this feedback to revise their articles for further publication in a refereed journal. The indigenous community will be invited through this medium to provide direct feedback to emerging scholars about many areas of interest to tribal communities.
